Cars in Greece

Cars in Greece are very small most engines do not exceed four cylinders compared to the gas
guzzling 6 to 8 cylinder engines we have in the US. The cars are small compact and are usually
not American made. The most popular car brands here are Smart, Mercedes, and Citroen.
The taxis here are almost always a Mercedes because of its durability.
In Athens, if you are lucky you will see an SUV and it seems to almost take up the entire street.  

One of the most popular ways to get around in Greece is with a moped, motorcycle or ATV.
In Athens, you will see more mopeds then cars almost. In Greece these vehicles are able to go
between cars while driving on the road, this would be illegal in Minnesota but not every state in
the US. Mopeds and motorcycles get up to 100 mpg so it is very smart to save money on gas in
Greece by driving one of these. You will see some moped drivers driving on the sidewalks and giving
people a hard time.  

Gas in Greece is very expensive and is heavily taxed by all governments in Europe. If over three
dollars a gallon of gas is too much for you, gas in Greece is 1,70 euro a liter, which is about 7 euro
a gallon and that is the cheap gas. If you are looking to get a higher grade gas you will spend 2 euro
a liter, which is 8 euro a gallon, you can see how a moped is popular here. The gas in Greece
contains no ethanol like in the states(ethanol is a fuel made from corn). The gas is a higher octane
level then in the states as well in the states, you have 87, 89, and up to 93 octane rating of gas. In
Greece, they only have 95 and 100 octane gas which can be the way the gas is so expensive compared
to the states. Diesel fuel is by far the cheapest here coming in at about 1,30 euro a liter which is about
5 euro a gallon which is the closest price to the US. Diesel fuel in the states almost 3.50 a gallon at
times. Greece had one of the lowest taxed fuels in Europe and now has had to raise it due to the
increasing debt.
